There has been greater interest in comparing the 2024 Toyota Tundra vs 2024 Chevrolet 2500HD among off-road enthusiasts near Texarkana ever since Chevrolet announced the ZR2. After experiencing some success with the Silverado 1500 ZR2, Chevrolet has decided to give off-roaders an option that boasts the beefier HD powertrain and towing capabilities. It features a lifted suspension, an electronically locking rear differential, all-terrain tires and more. Later in the model year, Chevrolet will also introduce the ZR2 Bison, which is a custom edition made in partnership with AEV.
The question is, does the 2024 Chevrolet 2500HD offer enough to convince the average off-roader in our area to choose it over the 2024 Toyota Tundra at Yokem Toyota, and we’re doubtful. The big issue here is price. The ZR2 has a starting MSRP north of $72,000. What Chevrolet has done is price the ZR2 more in line with the Ram TRX and Ford Raptor but without delivering comparable performance. An appeal of the Tundra is that you can opt for the affordable SR5 and upgrade it with the TRD Off-Road package and still pay a lot less than you will with the ZR2, and if your budget does allow for considering the ZR2, you can spend less on the Tundra TRD Pro and get what we feel is a more polished product overall.
