The 2023 Toyota bZ4X is a new and upcoming vehicle from Toyota that is slated to be available at Yokem Toyota in mid-2022. It has not even released in Japan and Europe yet, but it is already generating a significant amount of buzz. There is a lot of interest in all-electric vehicles in general, and crossovers are among the most popular vehicles in our area and throughout the United States. In exploring this topic, it is important to note that Toyota has not released the final specifications for the much-anticipated bZ4X. That means that while accurate at the time of writing, the details provided here are subject to change.

The bZ4X is a small four-door crossover with a rear liftgate. The wheelbase is 112.2 inches, which is about 7.5 inches longer than the RAV4. It is not significantly longer than the RAV4 overall, however. The total length is 184.6 inches, which is almost 15.4 feet. There will be two core trim levels to start with in the U.S.: XLE and Limited. A power liftgate and 18-inch alloy wheels will be standard equipment with the XLE. The Limited with adds 20-inch alloy wheels and hands-free liftgate.

What we know with certainty is that the bZ4X is a five-passenger crossover. Toyota has not released the specific legroom and cargo space, but we know that bZ4X is more spacious than the current RAV4. You can therefore expect at least 41.0 inches of front legroom, more than 38 inches of rear legroom and more than 37 cubic feet of dedicated cargo space. Based on the photographs released, we know that the cabin has a futuristic design that is dominated by a central touchscreen that is elevated for easier viewing.

Front-wheel drive will be standard. All-wheel drive will be an option, but it will reduce the range from the top estimate of 250 miles. A lithium-ion battery pack is standard. The vehicle will support 110-volt connections, 120-volt connections and DC fast-charging stations. At a charging station, you can charge the battery to 80% of capacity in just 30 minutes. Toyota has not yet indicated the speed of the Level 1 and Level 2 connections. The bZ4X also has integrated solar panels that will capture enough energy for about 1,000 miles of range each year, but some reports indicate this is not included in U.S. models.

The bZ4X will be the first vehicle to release on Toyota’s new dedicated EV platform. The front-wheel-drive version has a single motor and makes 201 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. The all-wheel-drive version has two motors and makes 215 hp and the same torque. Toyota has also not confirmed whether the bZ4X will be rated for towing, but many other vehicles in the segment are.
